You can't find a good car for $1000, but you can find plenty of "good for $1000" cars.
The strategy here is to find something that runs now and maximize the chances that you can get 6-12 additional months' use out without making a major repair. On net, this comes out much cheaper than making a car payment, but you'd better have an extra $1000 in the bank because you may need another one just like it in three years, or in a week.

Yes! Look at
https://www.racingsportscars.com/report/...-expo.html My girlfriend Volvo recently died, and she was in dire need of a car, so I perused Craigslist and found a 2003 Ford Crown victoria former police car for $700. The body was straight, with no rust and it ran decently. I took it home knowing I could fix whatever I found wrong with it for very little money. It needed one ignition coil and 2 rear shocks, altogether about an hour of labor for me and about $70 in parts. It runs and drives great now and hasn't had any other issues, except for the other day when I ran over the front fender with my rock crawler because she was parked too close to the garage!

The best way to find a good used car for under $1000 is to look at your budget, and then make sure that you are getting the best value for your money. It's easy to spend more than $2,000 on a car if you have that kind of money available, but it can be difficult to find a car that will last for several years without costing much more than $1,000 or $1,200.
